We have two of these machines not taking firmware. They come up saying no change everytime. One of them is running ver.5 firmware. I tried going up incrementaly with the firmware with the same results. Tech support wanted me to reseat the dimms. I tried that with no results. I asked them if there is anyway to force the firmware and they told me no. So I guess if you suspect firmware and you have the latest loaded there is no way to reflash. Calling them again this morning, I suspect a board in my future.

Update from phone call to tech support.
They wanted me to redownload 7 again incase of a corrupt download. I told them I had tried ver 6.0 and 6.3 from previous downloads with the same result and those are known good downloads as I have used them alot. then he suggested replacing the DIMM in the #1 slot as that is the one responsible for the firmware. Of course I am the only one in the world that is having this problem. Am I? Dummietek I willcheck those connections today. I tried to look up that bulliten but could not find it. Is the a reference number? |

Just updated a TA 300 today with the new version 7.0 firmware and had no problem. Don't take offense to what I say next because I still occasionally do this. When unzipping the file I choose my thumb drive as the location and I still occasionally get in a hurry and forget to move all the unzipped files up to the root of the thumb drive and leave them in the folder that the unzip process creates. No update will occur, I just did it today for a KM-5050. Unzipped to the thumb drive then gave it to another tech who was going on a call for that machine and he calls me back and says it won't update. Well Duh, I say to myself. Sure enough I forgot to move the files.

Ive had the same problem in the UK, version 5 & 6 loaded ok using a 1GB memory stick but failed on version 6.03 so i tried another memory stick 2GB and it took all the update ok, why I dont know, dont really care, try a different make of memory stick.
This is the reply our tech support gave me when I made an enquiry. Hope the info is useful Regards from the UK Due to KM specification usb memeory from 128 MB up to 1GB is supported for TASKalfa series. We already used 4GB sticks without problems. But there are unusable usb sticks: 1.That ones containing "U3" support. These are composite devices with usb memory function and cd-rom function. 2.Composite devices with usb memory function and usb hub function. |

I haven't went back to the machines that origanally gave me the problems but yesterday I went out to another machine (yes the files are on the root (I have also forgot this before)) and I received the same thing. I barrowed a usb from a person in the office and tried that one and it worked. Sooo my PNY 4G memory stick that is the ultra small one that folds into itself apparently does not like Taskalfa. I will be going back to the other locations today to see how it goes. I guess the moral of this story is try try try and then try again.

Tried another 4G stick on another 500ci this morning and had the same problem. Then I used a 1G stick with no problems. It is looking like the taskalfas do not like large sized usb's.

I do find that some machines don't like some brands of USB sticks. I have an 512MB HP stick that neither canon nor kyocera machines like. I have 512MB, 2GB and 4GB kingston sticks and they have never failed me yet. Its a tiny bit more expensive to buy the better kingston sticks, but it saves so many headaches in the long run. I even have problems loading firmware with some of the Kyocera branded flash drives, although who knows who actually makes them.
Good luck! |

I agree with that. One of the sticks I tried is a kyocera taskalfa branded memory stick. It is 4G and was sent to the boss with promotional material. I quickly swiped it as it was a shiny object. Although multiple 500ci's would not take firmware off of it. So I guess try your memory sticks out on multiple machines in shop before going into the field with them.

Those Kyocera sticks can also lock out USB host's. I have had the sales use them in the showroom and the USB port was taken out. Had to format HDD....Main machine model affected was the Falcon 3 ie Your, CS 5050/4050.Our Km 5050/4050..............
