We have a Ta 500ci with a PF760 that about every other day it will come up with the message "can not use cassette 3 due to a failure". There is no C code, They say there is no mis-feed, works ok one time, the next time they walk up to it or try to print, the message is there. Turn the machine off and back on and it usually clears out. Thanks for your help.

This happens when the right tray is empty or nearly empty. The paper feed assy sits on rails. The rails become bent upward and this causes the pf assy to sit too high on the right side. Consequently, the right lift tray will reach its maximum height before the upper lift sensor can be triggered by the feed tires that come down to sit on tray. The rails need to be bent downward several mm in order to correct this problem. If you take off right cover of PF-760, there is clear access to see what is happening with right tray and how much you need to adjust rails downward. I use a long screw driver to wedge between front and back rails to make adjustment. By the way, remember when you install a PF-760 there is a warning to not lift unit out of box by it's rails, this is why. Also, to be fair, I think the rails can become bent upward from the right tray over driving into bottom of pf assy.

I've got a 400Ci giving the same message but it involves the left lift assy. When the left assy is very low on paper or just at the point that one sheet is left, the machine just stops with no code, just the error message for cassette 3 and to remove paper. The left lift assy is intermittently lifting. You can open the fd/sep roller door and cheat the interlock and watch the right side lift everytime, but the left side is very intermittent. When is does not life, the lift motor runs for approx. 30 seconds and then you get the cassette 3 error. If you keep the left side full of paper it generally runs well until it gets low on paper (approx 10 sheets) and then just stops. There is nothing in the event log to indicate a problem. I am suspecting the bent cross support rails as when I removed the feed assy, the rear brace was bent higher than the front brace.(closest to fd/sep rollers). I also had to relevel the left lift assy as the left side of the lift platform was 1/2 inch lower than the right side. I am suspecting a bad lift motor that may have been damaged by the lift assy being off level. I can see the dog of the lift platform engaged into the motor but it doesn't rise. But then when you open and close the cassette 3 drawer it may lift 3 or 4 times before it fails again.

I've been having a similar issue with a 400ci but it's been with cassette 2, not from the PF-760 attached to it. They can pull from it then get the error, usually turning it off and back on will clear that but I have had to go out and 906 it once to clear it. Any ideas?
