Will a TA-250ci toner work in a TA-400ci? Aside from the capacity I don't see any obvious parts on the cartridge to stop it from working. In a pinch as customer is printing about 15k pages a day and will not get more until Monday. Thanks.

The cartridge will not fit. If you look at the bottom towards the rear,(compare the 857 to the 867) you will see a molded part that will match up with the same on the copier.

No, the cartridge will not fit as Gazoo said. Now, if you could get the toner out of the 400 cartridge and into the 250 cartridge, you might just be able to make it work....

Actually, the 250 to the 400 toner cartridge. Must be an RFID in the casing as I refilled the 400 with toner from the 250. Machine recognized it as a valid toner but said it was empty even though it had about 18 - 19k worth of toner in it. I was desperate as they were going through it fast and said nothing until Friday afternoon and we are sort of at the end of the supply chain. Have two coming in today and will have to drive 100 miles to get them to the user. Oh well, beautiful drive and the moose are out, saw 5 yesterday.

Yes, there are RFID chips on all the toner cartridges. On the 857 & 867 they are under the TK toner label.

I wonder what would happen if you removed the RFID chip or blocked its signal. Would the copier accept the toner?

All I know about those damn RFID chips is that once the count has went to zero on them, the toner won't be recognized in the copier as usable. Don't know why they went this route, probably to sell dealers more toners cause early on, the toner cartridge definately had toner left in it but the RFID chip was reading 0 and all you could do was throw it away.

OK, I've been involved with the end-all research in transplanting the toners between taskalfa color. Here's the lowdown.

The high-series (400ci, 500ci) and low-series (250ci, 300ci) toner inside the containers are the same. What is different is how much toner is inside, and the keying on the bottom. The RFID is located on the rear, and it simply looks like a black mylar strip stuck on. The high-series and low-series copiers have identical RFID chips, but the FS-C8500 printer is a different RFID.

The keying on the cartridge is difficult to alter to fit in the wrong machine. What is ridiculously easy to do is to reach inside the machine where the toners are installed and bust out the plastic cartridge keys. I do it now with my bare fingers. Just bust them out and toss them. Then you can put either the high-series or low-series toner in and the copier does not complain at all.

Now the problem is putting copier toner into a printer, or vise-versa. That does cause a hiccup with the machine complaining about non-oem toner installed. In a pinch, you can peel the RFID from the old toner cartridge right off, remove the RFID from the new cartridge, and tape the old RFID onto the new cartridge.

LOL. Dude, I have tried some wacked out stuff to make a machine run, but i feel i have just been outdone. Good job sorting all this out. All of us have had the sneaky suspicion that the majority of toner in a model line all comes from the same barrel, they MAKE us pay extra for the different containers.
Now I am willing to concede there probly is a big difference between say.. 2050 and 6030 toner, but as long as you stick to same model line, you should not have a problem. I'll even go out on a limb and predict you make falcon toner work in a 2560. Big Grin

Want more color toner tips? You can dump the contents of those old FS-8000c and KM-C830 toner cartridges directly into a FS-C5016 cartridge and it will print with no apparent difference to the color output. At my last job the 5016 we used for the service department was using all FS-8000c toner for at least a year, having refilled each cartridge once or twice. It was a lot easier to do that than get approval from the owner to use a new 5016 cartridge.

Thanks Chris, that was the solution I was looking for. Won't swap on a regular basis but with unusual demand and back orders, it's good to have a fast solution. Thanks again.
