Been working on this one for a while. Long story..
Customer calls in with light ghosting on prints on lead edge of prints. you can almost see the txt running off the page.. Some times it would also spit out pages of complete black background stripes going vertical.. This is constant and happens about the 5th to 10th page out. This customer uses 24lb,32lb,48lb HP brand laser paper. It does it on all paper lbs All of the calibrations/refresh don't fix it. KM support line recommended replacing the fuser. No help there. KM tech came on sight with us. We Up the transfer cleaning voltage it helps a little bit... But does not fix it. Ended up replacing all the drums and the transfer belt. No Joy.... Noticed that the customers alarm system, cannon color plotter, and a computer were all on the same line. And only god knows what else is on the same line. Took the customers machine out of there office and put it in the shop on a dedicated line.. Now the image quality is gone on the 24lb. But the 32lb and up still gives us bad quality. Customer is putting in a dedicated line. KM is stumped.. Examples off to headquarters for the engineer to figure out. Firmware is at 7 by the way.. Did not help. Any ideas? Now would be a good time Mr.Scott.... Sir, The Transporter is shorted out... it keeps making Copys of a Architectural D-size drawing.... |

I'd be interested in seeing samples of the quality issue.

Hi Scott. I have another one with same problem, not as often as your but i think it's going to be the same solution. so let
me know what you find out.
Are you sugesting since the low segment machines have les LED's erase lamps having more equipment on the same circuit afects the copy quality? thaks, ML |

I've got an almost new 400ci doing the same thing. It will randomly add black lines (none thicker than a pencil line) of varying
widths and spaces onto the background of a black and white copy. The same thing happens randomly with colored lines on color
copies, but I'll tell you, it almost looks like a work of art because the colored lines are so prominent. The copier has only
25k on it. I just updated the firmware so maybe that will help.

The customer just called to say the machine is doing it again. I guess updating the firmware was not the solution.

Tech support told me to replace the laser unit so I did that a few days ago, but the customer called back to say that the
machine was still making the random lines. Has anyone else had this problem?

Did you set the fuser pressure before you installed it. I had a 500ci that had a similar problem that would go away when we
installed a new fuser, and would return in about 20K. The fuser looks very similar to a Voyager fuser, but they come without
the pressure being loaded. No one told us this in training.
