OK, We are taken over a large account about 40 6030's. Anyway, we were doing a full inspection on all of them and after printing the maintenance report some questions came up.
Sim. 928 (life count) shows about 28K copies more than the total count.
This is on all the 6030's they range from the lows 1800 up to 28000. Allways higher than the total count.
I have seen count numbers differ between total counts and machine counts on these and also on Falcon IIs. Strange things happen if a machine had a print system or a fax system installed in it for a period of time and then removed from the system, the total counter seems to lose the counts of the print system or fax system once removed but the machine total life count retains them. Also you can reset the total counter one time only if it is not over 1000 counts. This is done in one of the maintenance modes. Best bet is to stick with the counter that the end user has access to for turning in regular and accurate meter readings.
I have one 6030 with a 33,000 page difference between Total Count and Life count because we ran a ton of copies in maintenance mode while diagnosing a bizarre problem. It ended up being a missing $1 grounding strap
Also, one of the 6030 firmware updates changed the count at the top of each maintenance report page from Total Count to Life Count. Older models (falcon 1-2) typically display Total Count while newer models (falcon 3) display Life Count.

I've noticed this on Voyagers and Falcon IIIs also.
Copies and prints made while in service mode are not incremented on the Copy or Print counters, but do increment on the Total counter. The reason I noticed is because I always run 25 to 50 pgs per tray on setup, so final copy counts are typically 100 to 200 prints. On a couple of consecutive setups I forgot to exit service mode before running test prints, so my Copy and Print count was still 0.

Depending on what level your main boot firmware is currently at you may need to update it first before proceeding with any other firmware update. Be sure to check out TB#5 concerning this, even though it says it is to enable scan to SMB support it needs to be done for future firmware updates.
