I have a 3232 that was putting multicolored streaks on the copies. I found piles of multicolor toner on the trans belt assembly that had also dropped onto the Magenta dev and drum unit. I cleaned them and then exchanged the entire trans assembly with a new one from a showroom machine. 3 days later the customer called back and I now have the exact same piles of multicolored waste toner in the exact same places. Any ideas?

I'd check the waste toner tube that connects the transfer belt waste to the transfer waste bottle. It's only a few inches long, but could be clogged up, or some other mechanical problem.

Just had a C3225 doing the dropping of toner on the Magenta unit and laser slit glass and streaking on the transfer belt. Problem was the transfer belt cleaning drive is failing. The bunny brush on the transfer belt assy is driven by gear on the bypass drive pack assy. The gear comes thru the rear of the machine frame just above the bypass and inside the drive pack is another gear that has a "D" shaped drive on the shaft. This gear rounds out and the bunny brush cannot drive correctly. You can clean it thoroughly and about 3 days later it's back. I just replaced the drive pack and no more problem. I took the drive pack apart and found the rounded out gear. Once the transfer belt gets about 3 or 4 copies the marks go away as the bunny brush drives just a little bit just by contact of the brush to the belt. But not enough to be efficient. Order the bypass drive pack, install it and the build up on the belt and droppings will go away. I've got some pictures, will try to upload them.

I agree with neverlaughs. The MPF Drive assy possible problem. Part # 302FZ93250 about $93.00. Gear # 302FZ31310 $1.00.

Just went to a CS-C3232E machine today with similar problems. Piles of cyan, magenta and yellow toner down on the tranfer belt assembly. Removed the transfer belt to clean up toner along with the DV units. I also removed each drum unit and removed the drums and cleaned out the cleaning areas as best I could. It appears to me that on this machine the waste toner from the drum units is not being removed efficiently or quickly enough from under the cleaning blade and cleaning roller. It packs into this area and then toner leaks out at both ends badly and then gets slung into the transfer belt assembly. I believe the different colored streaks you see are from the fact that so much toner is built up in the cleaning area of the drum unit that it needs to go somewhere, so it transfers back out onto the drum from the cleaning roller ever once in a while. I removed as much waste toner from this area as I could. I then repowdered the drums and reassembled and ran tests and everything is fine. The funny thing is that this does not appear to occur with the black drum unit, only the cyan, magenta, or yellow will randomly produce these color streaks. I elimanted the transfer belt cleaning assembly from causing this problem by not only checking the drive pack assembly for gear damage, but by the fact that these smudges are definately cyan, magenta or yellow. The transfer cleaning assembly would streak some puke greenish brown if it was failing, the same color of waste toner mix you see in the small waste toner container. I will try to get some of the pictures that I took posted on here shortly.

The dropping of toner down onto the Magenta drum and developer assy is due to the toner building up so heavily in the transfer belt assy that as the belt continues to turn it drops each color toner directly onto the Magenta units as they are located directly under the cleaning brush area of the transfer belt. What you say regarding the drum and devs units in general is true. The new style drum units have two cleaning augers on top of them probably because the original style with one could not remove the toner fast enough. The gear damage shows up very specific to the Magenta drum and dev. unit due to its physical location in the machine. You will also find a pile of toner over the Magenta laser if you check it before the wiper cleans the slit glass.

That's what I was wondering about, if the Copy Star I was working on had the original drums in it, and what modifications to drum units may have been made. Is there a bulletin concerning this?

You were right about that gear spinning freely on the shaft that is supposed to drive the waste toner. I will now have to order a replacement gear. Getting that drive pack out was not fun. Thanks for the info.

Really glad you found it. Going that deep into the machine, I just ordered the whole drive pack as it is a warranty item. I didn't want to have to take that drive pack more than once if I didn't have to. Next project is trying to determine why the black dev units are blowing toner all over the walls. But again, glad you found the rounded out gear.
