Without smart duplex, if you print a document with an odd number of pages, the last one will also duplex, and dutifully add a click on the total counter as it prints a blank, refeeds, and then prints the odd page.

Smart duplex will just output that last page without going through the duplex refeed, and not waste a meter click. Also if it's just a single-page doc, it will just feed 1-sided (beneficial to me as I have my home FS-1020D print driver defaulted to duplex in my driver).

I still don't get it, Chris. When I did the test that prompted this post I watched the 300ci and with a 3 page doc both printed pages went thru the duplexer. With a 4 page doc, with the last page being blank, both of those 2 printed pages went thru the Duplexer. And in both instances the counter clicked 4 times.
Still confused, but that's becoming more and more normal the older I get.

Shep,
It's in Driver Properties, under the Device tab, hit the PDL button and then the Settings button. Same place as where we used to be able to defeat Auto- Drawer Switching. Has anyone found how to stop Drawer Switching on the TASKalfas?
