We've had two instances of this occuring recently, where waste toner apparently backs up from the transition area of the waste toner delivery area and ends up pushing a small plastic cap out of position in the Transfer Belt Unit and then proceeds to dump waste toner into the front right corner of the copier framework. Takes about 45 minutes at least to vacuum up all the toner and if you can't find the missing plastic cap, you have to order an entire transfer unit assembly.
Mystery Plastic Cap Found Here, Above the Waste Toner Auger in the front right corner of the copier. Waste Toner Exit area of Transfer Belt Cleaning Section Looks Like It Fits Vunderbah, it fits This message has been edited. Last edited by: elheather, |

Thanks for sharing. What symptoms do you see? Poor transfer belt cleaning?

The symptoms are as follows...
TONER PISSING DOWN THE RIGHT SIDE OF MACHINE AND INTO THE BYPASS!!!!! Had 2 this month Eric, i was just gonna post Thought a tech had caused it, but i think the waste is backing up enough to force the cap off. A drop of super glue would seem be the prevention, that plug/xfer waste auger holder thingy fits pretty snug, but not the best design when you think about it. Sim 486 to mode 1 Sim 147 to mode 1, and maximum add from 5 down to 2 or a bit higher if they run big colour. =========================== Think of how stupid the average person is, and realize half of them are stupider than that. - G. glad you posted this, i just had one do this and didnt have a clue to what was causing the toner to dump.
can you take a picture of the unit where the cap goes? i havent found a cap, but need to know where i am going for. **or is this on the transfer belt itself??** thanks again for the heads up!!! This message has been edited. Last edited by: LNorris, |

I have seen this also. If you cannot find that plastic plug you will need to order a new belt (under warranty of course) If you glue that plug on something else will break. There is a Q&A on this, they came out with a spring to break up the toner.

The white cap goes on the front, (machine reference front) side of the xfer cleaning section. Just follow the waste auger from back to front, you will see the hole just above where the waste shutter for the xfer cleaner is. If you find the cap after it pops off, it's most likely to be in a big pile of toner, just to the right of the magenta dev unit. HAVE FUN, hope you didn't wear your good pants that day!

About the Q&A on the change, I sure wish KMA would make the solutions they come up with more readily available to the field techs. We shouldn't have to spend hours researching the data base and sifting through the hundreds or thousands of search results you come back with. I assume what is causing this issue, is toner "Bridging" the drop chute. My first call to this machine was a C2812 code, which is not in the service manual. I removed the from cover and cleaned out the entire waste toner augering system, or so I thought, didn't see any excess toner dumping yet in the front right corner. A week or less goes by and the customer calls back saying that toner is spilling into paper cassette one. Well when I opened the copier up this time and took off the right side cover, then I could see where the toner was collecting in an area above the waste toner motor located in the right front area of the copier framework, above the bypass tray. I got lucky and found the cap. Haven't been called back since, but I'm going to look up the Q&A on this issue to see what the spring fix does, if it helps keep the toner broken up so that it doesn't cause a pluggage in the verticle chute from where it drops out of the transfer belt and into the short horzontal convey auger, it may be worth a trip to all the TAs to fix.
Oh, by the way, the QA bulletin number concerning this problem is A210-HOLD, now why this bulletin never makes it's way to all field techs is a mystery to me. This message has been edited. Last edited by: elheather, |

Ya, I'm with you on that. If it's important enough the write a Q/A on, it's important enough to make it an official tech bulletin. It seems they like to "hide" too many important things way down deep in that bottomless pit called the Q/A bin.
