At least thats where I think the streaks are coming from. Maybe some contaimination got on the transfer belt and tracked up on to the transfer drum...thats what a visual inspection looked like. The streaks were light grey, lead edge to TE, about 1/2" wide, 2 of them, consistantly there, reports and copies. Found the CQ after repairing a constant jamming issue. I can't rule out that this was technician induced (me Smile), but I really can't think of how I did it.

What do you use to clean the transfer drum or belt for that matter. I tried toner, now the drum and belt "look" better, but still leave the streaks. Anyone ever use water or alcohol?

If its from the transfer drum I would think you would see it on the drum when you pull it out. Did you make sure there wasn't any paper stuck in the top of the transfer drum. It has a cleaning brush on the side towards the drum, I would also check that. Good luck.

Thanks Hutch...here's the follow up. You're right I could see a little contamination, mostly on the t'fer belt, and continuous, faint streaks on the t'fer drum. So on last Friday I tried cleaning the belt, t drum and cl brush with a rag and toner. The componants looked much better, but the CQ still had constant continuous streaks. This was after 5:00pm and the cust wanted to go and I needed to bring back a part anyway for the initial reason for the call...always jams at the top of the right side vert sect. I went back yesterday and streaks were all gone. Here's what I think is what happened; the contamination upset the evenness of belt and drum, even after the visual condition was improved the electrical properties were still uneven. Maybe a charge (or insulation of). These seem to recover or dissipate on their own with time and copies. I guess, in hind sight, I've seen similar effects in other transfer rollers. So in this case, toner and a rag was appropriate to clean these componants, but time and use was required for real recovery.
