One more thing to check...sometimes the carriage lock doesn't release all the way so when the carriage moves back to the slit glass it will hit the lock and stop short causing lines and shading on the copies.

Perhaps you should remove the lock assembly - sounds like you're in for future troubles if you don't do something with it....

QUIZ, Anybody know how to get the scanner BACK into position to reuse the scanner lock?
