I have a machine that ask for toner before it runs out. Sometimes cartridge is still full. I'm not getting error codes to indicate a bad motor. Looking at this again, customer is checking the toner levels under status/supplies, and when toner levels get to 10% they are changing them. Big problem is the toners are not even close to being empty. One customer reported that they took out the toner and shook it,put it back in machine, and toner gauge went to 90%.

From What I understand and was told by support once about these toner levels is that they work soley off of the counter from when it gets installed. Make Sure that the Firmware is totally up to the most current level and tell the customers "NOT" to shake the toner up once it's been installed and to only replace it when the machines says to install a new one.

Thanks, is there a way to turn this off. I haven't found one yet to turn off the gas gauge on the supplies tab.

God I hope they're buying their own toner if they're replacing it because it says it's at 10%! Especially if they're not even close to empty! Relax? When?!

This is how it works. RFID resets the meter counter when a toner is installed. Once the counter resets it assumes toner consumption off of the recorded current consumption. If a customer puts their old toner back in the box, let's say and another user replaces same old toner the next time, the meter will show 100% even if it's almost empty. Also, I have seen customers put the used toner on top of the machine while inserting the new one, the RFID for the old container is still in range (5 feet) and never resets the counter. To verify this you can run the machine with all the toners out of the unit, sitting on top of the machine and it will still show the fuel gauges on the print out. Another caveat to this is that when the TDS in the DV unit starts to flake out, the machine may continue to request toner even though it has enough. You can verify that the toner motors are working (conveyance motor and the agitation motor) with the front door open and the specific bottle removed. After the machine cycles X number of times without being 'replenished' it will show an add toner condition even though the toner container has toner. The DV may not error out. Then verify the DV is spinning. I replaced 2 bad dv units last week alone for this same problem. I tell customers to ignore the fuel gauges, that they are for estimating when they should reorder, not replace toner. ZThis message has been edited. Last edited by: 313ZD, No HOPE, just BROKE. Mike, you can usually bring the dev back to life by turning the drive gears by hand like a bazillion times. I have brought half a dozen back to life that were throwing 710XX codes. The stirring mechanism in the devs are not keeping up with the toner demand. Usually find this on high color usage machines. If you pull the TD sensor off the bottom of a one throwing codes, you can see the mix is AFU. I have sometimes added a pinch of toner under the sensor, enough to cause a reverse code of too much toner , but usually, you can at least get the machine to come up enough to run a dev refresh. I'm beginning to think running a dev refresh on every service is a good idea. I have also seen the same problem cause continuous toner feed,( seems to always be yellow), but I have also seen the non updated dev motors,(dead) cause this also. Thanks for the explanation of RFID on these, there is scant knowledge on the subject. =========================== Think of how stupid the average person is, and realize half of them are stupider than that. - G. Unfortunately my problem has been over toning, toner sensor never sees enough toner. The ones I have had were there was too little toner has been the DV drive motor. Of course with KMA cracking down on warranties, if they put a bad part in and it doesn't fail immediately the reject the claim, no matter how descriptive you are with your notes!! God I miss the Minolta boxes! Z No HOPE, just BROKE. Anyone else - 2012

Hmmm, the only overtoning ones I have seen were the dev unit going bad, mostly before the new "B" ones came out. Are you having this prob on the" B" model devs as well? =========================== Think of how stupid the average person is, and realize half of them are stupider than that. - G. Carlin
