I printed out a status page from a 300ci today and while looking over the 'Counters' section, it lists 'Color' 'MonoColor' & 'B & W'.

What on earth is "MonoColor"???

If someone's bored enough to poke around the interface, they might find a way to make Cyan-only copies (or magenta-only, or yellow-only). There are also red-only, green-only, and blue-only, but I'm not sure which counter they add to since they use 2 print colors.

As a tech you will occasionally find the mono color mode useful to isolate a bad dev or drum unit.

Be careful about reading health books. You may die of a misprint.

I also had a customer ask me while they are printing from PC side in ECO mode there is no difference on the counter report stating that.

Why would there be? Counts aren't based on toner coverage as far as I know.

cboucher, Bababooey to you also,It's my opinion counts are based on fuser exit as far as I know, is Taskalpha different? They questioned why is there not a price difference for ECO instead of being charged for full BW due to less toner usage as far as there service contract situation.

Skyshot,

I take it that their contract is toner inclusive, otherwise they would see the savings when they purchased toner. I hate it when people try to nickel and dime every little thing...

I'm guessing she probably uses the cheapest, crappiest paper she can find and you're forever cleaning white dust out of that poor, abused machine. Am I right? Customers like that expect you to change how pretty much the whole industry does business just for them. Try explaining that this is a business and not a charity. Of course, I doubt that does any good...

My response to these customers is:
Thank-you for telling me, we priced the contract assuming you would only use Eco mode, so I will be sure to inform my office that you are using more toner than you should so they can bill you for the extra toner usage.

As far as color being off:
Did you tell the sales rep that you needed exact color matching? Most people feel it is not worth the $25,000 investment and daily calibrations to achieve EXACT color output. I am sure the sales rep would love to come back and arrange for you to purchase the required accessories to achieve EXACT color matching, who should he speak with?

That usually shuts 'em up, you just have to look em in the eye and be sure to be sincere, no trace of humor or being snide.

It normally counts when the paper is ejected, but it can be changed to secondary feed in U260.

For color matching check with your rep. He gave us several file to update in the firmware and it gave us a Bizhub emulation which matched the output of a TA 500 exactly to the Bizhub.

Jeff,

I'm with you on that. The only problem is (at least in my experience) the salesman telling the customer anything they wanted to hear just to get the sale and letting us worry about these "small technicalities"
