I had one of these do this to me after upgrading the machine(w/o fax) with a new fax sys. I had to force the machine into to an error by unplugging the hard drives. I believe I unplugged the data and the power cables. While the machine was in c-code state I was able to run 906. When the machine asked you to turn off main switch and back on just turn off and connect the hdd cables back up. Also at this point remove the fax sys and try to boot machine. If it boots ok turn it off again and try to upload new frimware before putting fax back in machine. Good Luck!

What was the solution copier123? I've got a TA, 500 with "WELCOME SCREEN" on constantly, then occasionally F000, C0640 and "restoring hard drive".Sometimes it produces a copy! Thanks, Bill in Birmingham.

Older post, but I had a 500ci that was giving f040 and f278 code. Would update the firmware with the front cover open, but lock up with a f040 code when closing front cover. Had searched on here last night and seen the post about the fuser causing the problem, and that was the fix. Just wanted to say thanks for saving me a few hours of hair pulling.

agreed, whenever I have a wierd upgrade issue, I pull the fuser and let it code, that way you can get into the system at least! =========================== Think of how stupid the average person is, and realize half of them are stupider than that. - G. Carlin

Yes F040 in the book says firmware/engine/main pwb. Tried loading firmware, it failed with HI VOLT CPU Error. Pulled Fuser, then was able to load firmware....so Fuser causes F040 and causes firmware failue. thats messed up!

Well let me throw out another bone. The "front" main pcb (in the 'front' above the dv units) will also cause this and a bad engine board will also cause HVT CPU error when loading firmware. ...but don't worry there is a firmware to fix the firmware. Z No HOPE, just BROKE. Anyone else - 2012

Just had the same exact problem as COBB IT along with a F0070 fault. Found the fuser belt came apart. Installed a new fuser and reloaded the Firmware with no problems. Thanks for the help!!!!!! It saved me a lot of time.

I checked the front main PWB (above the DV Units) and I found the black developer connector wire was not seated properly in the holder and it was trapped between the retainer assy, pulling the wire and the connector from the main PWB. Thanks to 313ZD for that post. This message has been edited. Last edited by: seanjw,
