I have a customer getting this code when printing a 60 page 11x17 stitched booklet with fairly heavy graphics using KPDL. Nobody has been able to tell me what the error means. PCLXL doesn't code, but doesn't print either. PCL5c will print the job.
It sounds like it's probably a memory timeout. Try printing the first 40 pages and see if it still errors out. You might also want to try to print it to a box and then print the file from the box and see if it errors out. Is the customer running multiple copies or just one copy of the book?
If you set the driver back to KPDL, make sure to uncheck the "allow data pass through" in the settings area, this makes a world of difference and ends up eliminating alot of print errors. It's been talked about in other threads on this site. I've talked to KM tech support about this setting and they don't really know what it is for.
The firmware is up to date (that was the first thing I tried). I have not tried reducing the number of pages - that won't really help since this is a stitched booklet. Also, it only makes it maybe 20 pages (5 11x17 duplexed sheets) before it codes out.
I did try direct PDF print - it printed part of the job and just quit.
I sent the PDF to KMA but haven't heard anything back from them.
I do have data pass through turned off - it appears that function allows specific print code to be untouched by the driver and blindly forwarded to the print controller (which is probably why it causes problems from Acrobat - may be sending code KPDL just can't process instead of the driver filtering it off as invalid commands or something)
I did modify host buffer settings today (I think - did it remotely and couldn't find anything on the web interface that would show the current FRPO settings).
We have had some problems printing from Acrobat Reader 9. We reinstall Adobe Reader 8 on the computers and all printing problems have gone away. If you google "Adobe 9 printing problems", you will see alot of color printers and copiers copiers are having problems. It may be worth a try if using version 9.
Interestingly, the latest Firmware update v3.05 includes, among a total of 24 fixes, "Measure to Prevent a CF2A4, CF594, CF246, CF248, CF215, CF245, and CF485."
Give it a try and let us know.

It certainly doesn't do anything for the CF248 triggered from Booklet mode.
It's pretty interesting to watch it on the Windows print spooler. Since it's a booklet, it really can't start printing until Acrobat is done outputting it - since the first sheet out is something like Pages 1,64,2 and 63. It seems like it's giving info to tell the print system a job is coming, but it takes so long to really get that first full sheet (4 pages) that it freaks out.
Weve had this in the UK a couple of times with Adobe version 9, in the print driver, change the driver to KPDL, then on the left theres a box which says settings, uncheck the box Allow Data Passthrough then select which ever driver your using & exit, also to this using printing pdf files created on Apple Macs takes for ever to print due to the graphics, when you select file, print but before clicking ok, go into the box on the bottom left which says Advanced and check the box Print as Image, it not only speeds the printing up but you get an exact colour match. Hope this helps, all the best from the UK.
