How about the display itself, or the display inverter? Does the machine give any indications that it is completing initialization?

My sharp rep called back!!!! Before I could finish describing the problem he was giving me a unpublished part number for a new LCD. Sharp has known for several months but published nothing. Why??? "To keep dealers from hording the part." Order the part under warranty. Part # CDRGLCD.

This is Sharp's way of dealing with a crisis. Cover it up.

My favorite answer from the Sharp hotline? "We've never heard of that problem, but let us know how you fix it."

Ouch. Did you call back??? Latest update is...
Installing the new lcd display did fix the black display problem. The latest is that the touch screen is non-responsive. I have replaced the touch screen, inverter pwb, lvds pwb, and the ribbon cables from the scanner pwb. Touch screen is still dead. I ran SIM 65 to adjust the touch screen I get a quick beeping as the touch screen is constantly being compressed. I get the same symptom with the touch screen remove from the op panel.
Its time for hard liquor!!!

Could there be a bit of grit between the glass and the touch screen, pressing in one area?

Is this the same machine, same panel?

I thought that might be the case but when I disassembled the op panel with all the components plugged in I still got the same symptom. So I started from the scan board and worked forward. I replaced ribbon cables inverter pwb, LVDS pwb. And touch screen to resolve the issue. Now I have A0-22 error.
Do you have latest firmware???

Sorry, no. It's been two years since I was at the Sharp dealer. Can you believe it? They disabled my login.

Shocking!! I did get the firmware file emailed from my tech rep. It did take 3 days and a phone call. He kept telling me to call the hot line. I call the hot line but they can't help because I am not in "the system". Finnally I asked "Can you please just email the *#@% file so I can fix the machine". Today when I try to update the file does not load. I need hard liquor!!!

Resolved!!!! Dan Thanks again. Updated the machine to latest firmare. After updating I still get the A0-22 error. To solve this run SIM 56-2 run All to HDD. Enter special test command P-*-ca-P 88-7 CLEARS SCU MEMORY runSIM 56-2 HDD to All. this reset the info on the new scanner PWB. Now tha A0-22 is resolved.
